Laura spent last weekend visiting us in DC--the weather was freezing the whole time she was here, so I'm sure she's happy to be back in California this week! Her niece and nephew loved having her here, and on Friday night the two of us ventured out for a sister dinner.
I had a hard time choosing a restaurant; going out to eat without kids is a rare treat for me, and there were lots of places I wanted to try. I ended up picking Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan, and it was a good choice. We sat at a cozy table in the back of the restaurant--perfect for catching up, but the low lighting made photography difficult.
Pictured at left are some blistered shishito peppers and the restaurant's famous escargot hush puppies.
I was a little apprehensive about the escargot hush puppies--I like escargots and I like hush puppies, but the two together sounded a bit weird. My concerns were misplaced, however, as they were delicious. We ended up ordering a collection of appetizers and sides, and the portions were generous enough that Josh was able to make lunch out of the leftovers the next day. Besides the hush puppies, we loved the crispy kale salad with a hunk of creamy burrata in the middle, and I thought the cocktails were excellent.
The creme brulee we shared for dessert reminded us why it's a classic: crisp on top, creamy vanilla custard below. Thanks for a lovely dinner, Laura, and come back soon!
